If I decide to take an English I Class at a community college, then the main requirement is that I MUST already know how to read and write. When I walk into the classroom, the teacher will assume I already know how to read and write because I have already reached that level of maturity. Therefore, there will be no need for the teacher to revert (or go back to previous state) in showing me how to read and write and the students will be able to continue to move forward in learning. Likewise, the Holy Spirit, Who is our Heavenly Teacher, He leads us in all truth and from glory to glory. Forever learning and growing in truth. This is spiritual maturity.
When one is truly spiritually mature, then they will not become offended when the Holy Spirit corrects them. Instead they will listen with their spiritual ears to His truth and repent and obey. As a matter of fact, when one is truly spiritually mature, they will do more listening and will only speak when the Holy Spirit permits them. When one is truly spiritually mature, as they listen to an individual speaking, by the Holy Spirit, they will know exactly what they are saying. For instance, two spiritually mature people holding a conversation and do not mention the law or commandments of God but starts to rejoice in God's grace and mercy does not mean that they have rejected God's law or commandments. They know that the two cannot be separated. So together they praised the LORD for His Goodness. But if a spiritually immature person hears them rejoicing in God's grace and mercy, they would assume that they have rejected and forsaken God's law or commandments. Do you see the difference in being spiritually mature versus immaturity? When you are spiritually mature, you do not need to revert or go back to the previous state, you keep moving forward in learning and growth. Just like my example, the two spiritually mature people did not need to give an understanding to each other regarding the law or commandments of God before they started rejoicing in God's grace and mercy. They already understood. Therefore, they could continue moving forward in the things of God.
This is the very reason why the Apostle Paul spoke to the Corinthians Church. They should have been more spiritually mature in their walk with God. They could not handle the meat or revelation of God's Word to help them move forward in the things of God. Paul had to revert or go back to the milk of God's Word whenever he spoke to them. They were spiritually immature in the things of God. As the Apostle Paul, when I speak with some of my brothers and sisters who say that they are spiritually mature, I have to revert or go back to the milk of God's word. My conversation with them does not help them (and me) in moving forward in the things of God. It is the Holy Spirit's desire to mature God's children in His Word. We need to pray that our Heavenly Father would humble our hearts to receive His Word, regardless of the vessel He uses to do it. We need to humble ourselves and submit to God our whole heart (spirit, soul and body). And by doing so, we give the Holy Spirit permission to mature us in the meat or revelation of God's Word. Selah †
